Simple Solutions to Common Problems

— Relaxed Hair Styles - Before and After

Girls' hairstyles for proms, weddings, or other formal (and even informal!) occasions can involve a trip to the salon if you're relaxing your hair. To learn what to do and what not to do in the days before and after you're getting your prom hairdo, Motions Hair got together its stylist experts and asked for tips about getting girls' hair relaxed:

Things TO DO before having your daughter's hair relaxed:

Remove braids a few days before
Rinse heavy gel from her hair a few days before
Oil her scalp with Motions Oil Moisturizer the day before
Inform her stylist about previous chemical services

Things you should NOT DO before having her hair relaxed:

Massage her scalp
Allow her to perspire before going to the salon
Irritate her scalp with a hat
Shampoo her hair within 72 hours
Use holding spray
Brush her hair or scalp

Things TO DO after her hair is relaxed:

Avoid super hot blow dryers
Ask when a retouch should be scheduled
Use cloth holders or smooth rubber bands to avoid breakage
Protect her ends when using curling irons
Use detangling shampoo between visits
Apply a moisturizing conditioner every time you wet her hair

Things you should NOT DO after having her hair relaxed:

Use long rubber bands
Pull her hair into tight braids
Let her sleep on rough pillowcases
Press relaxed hair
Use overheated curling irons
Use hair accessories with rough edges
